Scope of Practice

Dr. Boyle's expertise is in the fields of knee surgery, shoulder surgery, hip preservation surgery, and orthopaedic sports medicine, with a special focus on arthroscopic surgery, sports injury management and rehabilitation. Dr. Boyle does not perform joint replacement surgery, choosing instead to focus on the areas of his sub-specialisation, in order to maximise his expertise.

Specific conditions that Dr. Boyle treats include:

Shoulder:

  • Rotator cuff tears

  • Impingement

  • Instability

  • Labral tears

  • Acromioclavicular joint injury

  • Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)

  • Suprascapular neuropathy

Knee:

  • Ligament injuries, including ACL tears, PCL tears & multi-ligament disruptions

  • Meniscal tears

  • Cartilage injuries

  • Patellofemoral instability

  • Osteochondritis dissecans

  • Early or isolated osteoarthritis

Hip:

  • Hip dysplasia in adolescents and young adults (periacetabular osteotomy)

  • Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)

  • Labral tears

  • Hip pain in the young adult

  • Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (Perthes Disease)

  • Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis (SUFE)

  • Osteonecrosis

Note: Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis (SUFE) is an orthopaedic emergency in adolescents presenting with hip or knee pain and a limp - please contact the clinic directly for urgent assessment rather than routine referral if this is suspected.
