To refer your patient, please use any of the methods below. Dr. Boyle would greatly appreciate you arranging for the appropriate initial investigations (x-rays and/or ultrasound) to be completed before your patient's first appointment. Please note the specific x-ray views that will significantly facilitate Dr. Boyle's assessment of your patient.

Initial Investigations

Knee Conditions (all patients)

• Weight-bearing AP x-ray

• Rosenberg x-ray (45 degree weight-bearing PA x-ray)

• Lateral x-ray

• Skyline (Merchant) x-ray

Shoulder Conditions

• All patients:

  • Glenohumeral AP x-ray

  • Scapular lateral x-ray

  • Axillary lateral x-ray

• Suspected impingement, rotator cuff or unexplained pain:

  • Please include an ultrasound of the shoulder in addition to the above x-rays

• Patients over 30 years old with a shoulder dislocation:

  • Please include an ultrasound of the shoulder in addition to the above x-rays (to assess for associated rotator cuff injury)

Hip Conditions

• All patients:

  • AP pelvis x-ray

• Suspected hip dysplasia:

  • Please include bilateral standing false-profile x-rays in addition to AP pelvis x-ray

• Suspected femoroacetabular impingement:

  • Please include bilateral 45 degree Dunn lateral x-rays in addition to AP pelvis x-ray
