Research & Awards

Clinical research is an essential part of patient care, as it forms the foundation of treatment decisions. Dr. Boyle has produced a large volume of clinical research, and is currently undertaking studies investigating a number of aspects of hip preservation surgery, rotator cuff repair surgery, trauma surgery and shoulder instability surgery.

Best Oral Paper Award. SICOT (International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology) 42nd Orthopaedic World Conference, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 2022.

New Zealand Hip Society President 2021-2023. Elected as President of New Zealand Hip Society (society of orthopaedic surgeons covering all areas of hip preservation and hip replacement surgery).

American-British-Canadian (ABC) Travelling Fellowship 2020. (The most prestigious travelling orthopaedic fellowship in the world, which involves visiting and teaching at distinguished hospitals and universities throughout the United States of America and Canada over a five-week period). Fellowship scheduled for May/June 2020 (fellowship postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) Travelling Fellow Award. (The first New Zealand surgeon to be selected for this prestigious award) Visiting North American centres including: Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis & the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, April, 2016.

Feagin Leadership Scholar Award. Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC, USA, 2014.

Game Changer Award. (Recognised as producing one of the fifteen most clinically impactful orthopaedic studies in the world in 2014.) Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, New Orleans, USA, 2014.

Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Travelling Fellowship, 2013.

President’s Prize for Best Orthopaedic Trainee in New Zealand & President's Research Prize for Best Orthopaedic Research. (The only time these two prizes have ever been awarded to just one doctor.) New Zealand Orthopaedic Association Annual Scientific Meeting, 2012.
